PPFA crowns International OPEN and PRINT Framing Competition champions
 
ORLANDO, Fla. - Ray Dwyer, CPF, West Art, Sagle, Idaho, captured first place in the Professional Picture Framers Association 2006 International OPEN Framing Competition at the PPFA Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida. Second place went to entrant and framer, Linda Wassell, MCPF, of Spring, Texas; and third place was earned by Ria Richey, CPF, Creative Framing, Sierra Madre, Calif. Todd Hilliard, Richard Oversmith and Lynn Seibel of Todd's Frame Shoppe & Gallery, Asheville, N.C., earned honorable mention.
   Earning the "Judges Award for High-Point First-Time Entry" were Fedrik Bolgen and Sonia Mathis, The Framer's Gallery, Georgetown, Texas; the "Judges Award for Best Use of Theme" went to Baer Charlton, CPF, Charlton Productions, Portland, Ore.; and the "Judges Award for Innovation" went to Ray Dwyer, CPF, West Art, Sagle, Idaho.  The Popular Choice award was won by Todd Hilliard, Richard Oversmith and Lynn Seibel of Todd's Frame Shoppe & Gallery, Asheville, N.C.
   Meanwhile, in the coinciding PPFA PRINT Framing Competition, Angela Pearson, CPF, and Barbara Pelton, CPF, Artfully Framed, Poplar Bluff, Mo., captured first place. Second place went to Sean and Michelle O'Neill, CPF, West Textures Framing & Fine Art, Cookeville, Tenn. Mary Byrd, CPF, Kittie Rene Esposito, CPF, and Greg Legas, representing Frame Factory and Gallery of Largo, Fla., earned third place. Receiving honorable mentions were Todd Hilliard, Richard Oversmith and Lynn Seibel, Todd's Frame Shoppe & Gallery, Asheville, N.C.; Deborah J. Hill, MCPF, Frame Craft - Lampros Gallery, The Woodlands, Texas; Paula Rojik Gannon and Christopher Rojik, CPF, Frame Gallery Inc., Sharpsburg, Pa.; and Melanie Howe, America's Heartland Gallery, Overland Park, Kan. The "Judges Award for High-Point First-Time Entry" was won by Melanie Howe, America's Heartland Gallery, Overland Park, Kan.; the "Judges Award for Creativity" went to Brennen Bechtol, Darrell Blake, CPF, and Donna Highfield of Art Enhancement, Inc., Irving, Texas; and Joe Blitz, Judy Jarret Gier, Samantha Payne and John Russell, The Great Frame Up, Indianapolis, Ind., earned the "Judges Award for Theme." Finally, the Popular Choice award in the PRINT Competition went to Cathie Borys and Karla Elder, CPF, Sketchies Gallery & Custom Framing, Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada.
